Recreating Celebrity Look

I love simple pieces, and this celebrity recreated look is the exact reason why I think so! I love the Kardashian's sense of style. Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall, and Kylie always wear the new and upcoming trends, while putting their own twist on it. Obviously the outfits they wear cost as much as I would make at my job in a year, so if you want to look like a K-Dash, you have to find cheaper items to recreate the look! In this picture, Kim is wearing a simple black tee, oversized black blazer, boyfriend distressed jeans (cuffed at the bottom), and a neon pump. Her makeup is not too overdone, which is essential to the look. Her hair is in a top knot, which you can easily do with a sock bun air accessory, and lastly she is carrying a small black clutch bag. I love this look because it is perfect for any event, day, time, anything! I love how she chose to wear a neon colored heel because every outfit needs a pop of color; whether it be from a necklace, top, or shoe, your outfit cannot be boring and bland. You can easily find these items at Target, Old Navy, Forever 21, and so on. It is good to have staple items in your closet for outfits like these.

DIY Statement Necklace

I am really into crafting, and one day I saw a pin on Pinterest about how to make your own statement necklace with a chain and large beads, so I decided that I would try it out for myself! It looked a little difficult, but it is actually really easy!
In this picture it shows you how to make a statement braided bead necklace. I really like these types of necklaces because they can really make any outfit stand out and add a little pop of color and flair! For the first step you have to have all of the materials to make it; pliers, beads, chain, scissors , heavy thread, jump rings, bead tips, and a clasp. Step 2 you put the beads onto the necklace. Step 3 is when you take the claps and put together all of the bead strands. Step 4 is showing you what it should look like. Step 5 is showing you to separate the strands into two's into three different sections. Step 6 is the finished product.
You can make a statement necklace with other beads or charms, I just choose this one because it was the easiest and it is something that I would wear often!

Fall Nail Ideas

With the seasons changing, so should your nail color! I think that with the fall and winter months now here and soon to be approaching should call for more deep, rich colors instead of the bright pinks, blues, and neon colors that are more spring and summer appropriate. I have given you tips on what to wear this season, so now it is only fitting that your nail color is up to date, too! Like I have said in earlier posts, I am a Pinterest junky, and on that website it has great nail ideas such as colors and designs that anyone can do!
The one color that I think everyone should try for this fall season is either a nude or brown nail color.

In this picture, it has all of the different shades that I love. You can either go really dark with the brown,or have it be a light cream color. My favorite nail color in the picture is the ring finger nail. I think that it is a perfect balance between light and dark.

This color is a deep violet, my favorite. If you are a fan of apple red or deep red nails then this is the color you should try. Its also perfect for the people who love to wear pink colors on their nails, but don't want to carry the bright color over into the colder seasons.

Black nails are for the more daring and edgy person, but its not only limited to those type of people! Black nails are a classic in my opinion. As you can see, they put a matte coat on the whole nail, then added polka dots in a glossy coat. This is such an easy and cool design that anyone can do!

I love the Essie nail color brand. They have such a variety of colors in their line, and I have noticed that this brand does not chip as easily as other nail brands do. Although Essie is more expensive, it is worth the investment. Pictured is all of the fall favorites, which included browns, reds, and purples.

Brands

We can come the conclusion that I like and dress preppy. The preppier style of clothing comes with a price tag that can hurt your bank account. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear all brand name clothes, but who doesn't like to splurge and get something that they really want and love even though it is pricey?
I love all of my preppy brands. Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Ralph Lauren, Southern Proper, and so on. Every sorority girl knows and loves these brands. This summer I took a vacation to Florida with my best friend, and it was so crazy to us that the residents of the sunshine state were equally as obsessed with their preppy brands as we were! Almost every person that we saw on the street was in some sort of preppy brand; completely different that how it is here in Kansas. I'm going to explain a few of the brands that I have chosen and why I love them.
I love to buy Vineyard Vines long sleeves, t-shirts, and hats because I love the quality of the item. The shirts are so soft and the hats are very trendy and affordable. The signature pink whale is how you can tell if an item is Vineyard Vines. Another factor that makes this brand awesome is that the creators of this brand are very down to earth and likeable people. I get their magazine in the mail and not only do they show clothing items, but they feature some of the people who wear their clothes in the magazine as well! They give a little background story on the person and show them wearing their clothes. This magazine also has a story on the back of it, saying how it was founded and how they want people to view the brand and so on.
Ralph Lauren is another brand that I love because like Vineyard Vines, they have somewhat affordable clothing that is high in fashion. I am guilty of owning a Ralph Lauren hat in every color available. Their signature emblem is of a man riding a horse, playing polo. This brand has some of the finest and the best quality sweaters that money can buy. They are very reliable, they wont snag on things and wont 'ball up', and they come in a variety of colors!
Everyone is crazy about a certain brand, I just so happen to be crazy about a million!

Closet Renovation

I think that we have all been there. Too lazy to hang anything up, put things away, or even have your clothes make it to your closet. We all have those days where it looks like we just melted on the floor and put on the comfiest pair of sweats you own and an oversized sweatshirt or t-shirt. If someone were to look at my closet right at this moment, I would be thoroughly embarrassed. Fear not! I have a closet organization tips that can bring anyone's closet from a black hole to an easy, accessible storage place! I am crazy about Pinterest, so these tips that I am about to put down come from a pin inspiration.
Tip 1: Create storage bins form miscellaneous items.
-This is a great idea not only because it keeps all of the 'clutter' that you have in your closet in one solid area, but you know exactly where to go if you are missing a sock or a glove.
-This bin can either be on a shelf or hidden in the back of your closet. My miscellaneous bin is huge because I have a lot of mix matched items in my closet, so it is stored in the back.
Tip 2: Keep like pair of clothing together.
-This means that you should keep all of your sweaters, flannels, shirts, and jackets together.
-Designate an area for each so you aren't sorting through everything trying to find a single item.
-This can also help in other ways because I will just end up throwing things on the ground if I cannot find something that I am looking for.
Tip 3: Create wall storage for your shoes.
-Make little ledges on the side of the wall where you would like to put your heeled shoes at. You can get these type of ledges at Wal-Mart or Target. They make an almost V shape on your wall, so you can put the heel on the ledge and let the other part of the shoe dangle.
-If you have extra hanging space, you can buy hanging bins to store different types of shoes. This also frees up space on shelves if you have them in your closet.
Tip 4: Scarf organization.
-This tip is a little different, but bear with me. Buy shower curtain hooks, preferable circular ones that are 5 or so inches, hook them on a hanger, and string through your scarfs on the hooks!
-This works with any types of scarves. I am going to make one for my knitted scarves, infinite scarves, and my regular ones.
-It keeps them all on place and not jumbled up in a mess.

Closet organization can be a lot of work, but in the end it will cut down on the time you take to find something, and the stress of having a messy closet!

Arm Knitted Scarf Tutorial

I love knitted wool scarves, especially for the upcoming cold months! As I previously posted, I think an infinity scarf is an essential to everyone's winter wardrobe. Searching the internet on how to make said scarf I came across a video showing not only how to make one, but how to make one using just your hands! No knitting needles or anything. All you need is any color and type of wool, and thirty minutes of your time and you can own a knitted scarf with a personal touch of your own! I actually made one not to long ago, using a cream color of wool. If I can make one of these, then you can too!

How to be a Savvy-Shopper

As I have said in earlier blog posts, I am always trying to find the best deals on everything. Whether it be from clothes to shoes to makeup- anything. Why pay top dollar for something that you can buy for way less and it still being the same quality? I have came up with a few ways and stores where you can get what you want without going home broke.
The first store that I love is the Goodwill. I know, many of you are thinking, "Ew, I would never shop at a thrift store" or, "Gross, why would I buy something that someone has already worn?" Well, to set the record straight, Goodwill is actually an awesome place to get vintage looks at! I shop there quite frequently and find flannels, dresses, and other tops that are very trendy. Not to mention I get compliments on my outfits that I buy there, having people stunned when I tell them that I only paid about 4 dollars for it. I also have made the notorious high waisted shorts that every girl seems to be wearing nowadays. Just buy a pair of high waisted jeans, cut them to the length you would like and, BOOM, you are now hip and trendy, only spending about 5 dollars.
Another store that I like is Platos Closet. I do not visit Platos as much as I go to Goodwill, but they still have great items. Like Goodwill, it is a thrift shop, with gently worn clothes; but the difference between these two stores is that at Platos it only sells teen clothing (shirts, dresses, jeans, shorts, shoes, etc.) while at Goodwill they sell more of the older generation clothing with some home good products thrown in the mix. Something else that is unique about Platos is that you can sell your clothes to them! What's better than getting a little money off of the stuff that is just now taking up closet space?

My Wish List

So as the season of fall has come upon us, obviously it’s time to switch out our shorts and tanks for jeans and sweaters! This wardrobe transition is exciting to me because each year different and new items are out in stores. Fashion is ever changing.
One thing on my wish list for this year is a pair of L.L. Bean boots! These boots are so cute and are perfect for the snowy months. I’ve had people tell me that they think they are “old people shoes”, my dad had a pair when he was in his younger years, but they are really making a comeback! These boots are hand made in Maine, sewn from premium full-grain leather, rubber treed on the bottom, and leather laces in the front. Paired with the right outfit, you can consider yourself fashion forward!

Another item that I am wanting is a vest! I am wanting a puffy vest, but it takes time and patience to find just the right one. The vests that are extremely puffy and make you look like a marshmallow are not something that you would want to purchase, unless you’re going to Colorado for the winter and need to stay warm. The type of vests that I want and love are more of a fashion statement, something that you would wear on a nice breezy day because it wouldn’t keep you that warm. Put this vest over a plaid shirt under a sweater, and you are on the right track for a cute fall look!

Legends

One of my favorite places to shop at is the Legends. It’s a little far away from where I live, so whenever I go it’s always a treat! The Legends is a huge outdoor shopping complex filled with different restaurants, such as T Rex, Stix, and Panera just to name a few of my favorite. They also have Dave and Busters, which is a restaurant that you can go to not only eat, but play arcade games as well! It’s the perfect atmosphere fort all ages.
In the Legends there are department stores, children's fashion, entertainment, home furnishings and electronics, shoes and athletic apparel, and specialty stores. It is a great place to spend the day with your family and friends, get great deals on all the new trends in fashion, and eat some great food! I recommend everyone visiting the Legends, if you haven't already!

Fall Season Must Have's

Fall is finally here! Tis the season for pumpkin spice lattes, sweaters, leggings, and boots! Not only is fall my favorite season, but it is a great way for people to start bringing out their own personal styles!

I am all for a getting a good bargain, but its difficult to find good deals on fall clothes. My thrifty ways and relentless shopping tactics have saved me a ton. Here are just a few of my fall fashion must haves:

First, a basic flannel:
I love the look of a flannel over a cute top paired with distressed jeans and boots. You can try this with different materials; light weight to thick fabric, there are many options depending on how much you want to spend. You should wear this with neutral colors. Since plaid is a bold pattern, its best to pair with neutral solids. Leggings and jeggings go great with this fall favorite!

Another must have is a pair of riding boots:

These boots can easily dress up an outfit or make a comfortable outfit look cute. I prefer lighter shades of riding boots, but the darker leather is also are very in. I just bought this pair of boots (pictured) and the red zipper lined with studs adds a little pop of color and character!

Lastly, a knitted scarf is great to top off a fall look:

Not only do scarves keep you extremely warm, but they can add the finishing touches to your fall look. The chunkier, the better! Typically you see knitted wool scarves being thicker, but you can also find ones that are thinner. Getting the infinity knitted scarf is best to just throw on and go! Any shade, any style, scarves are a must have.

About Me

My name is Lauren Kostusik and I am a junior attending Washburn University. I have a loving family and a dog back in my hometown of Overland Park. I am studying Public Relations and I love the Mass Media field and all it has to offer.

I decided to do a blog on fashion because the fashion industry has always been something that I've been interested in. I love to dress up as much as I can because style is very important to me. My favorite thing to do when I have free time is go to the mall and shop. I like to mix and match pieces and see the different combinations of outfits that I can make up with my own clothes. With the fall and winter season approaching it makes me excited to blog about the different trends that are coming up!
